Atlas Roofing's Season of Giving

’Tis the season to think of those who are less fortunate.

In the spirit of helping others, Atlas Roofing is excited to kick off its season of giving — aka “Give, Roof, Play” Month.

The concept of “Give, Roof, Play” is to celebrate and encourage giving by supporting and participating in philanthropy, however possible.

Over the years, Atlas has donated time, products and resources to countless organizations, including the Veterans Community Project and Susan G. Koman for the Cure. Most recently, Atlas’ corporate office was proud to sponsor this year’s Songs for Kids Foundation fundraiser in Atlanta, GA.

Although based in Atlanta and Meridian, MS, Atlas facilities around the country support local charities, such as foodbanks, women’s shelters and veterans’ organizations, throughout the year — and so do our contractors.

These next six weeks around the holidays are our opportunity to feature the good work of the many members of our community by sharing and highlighting their stories, as well as providing ideas for ways that you and others can give back in your own communities.

Check out some of the previous articles we’ve written about the ways Atlas and our generous contractors “Give, Roof, Play” every day and all year round:

Contractors Doing Good — for Everyone, Everywhere

Atlas contractors have gone above and beyond to help homeless pets, churches, veterans and nurses. They’ve helped St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, widows and tornado survivors. And so many more!

Regularly partnering on these projects, Atlas contractors donate time, while Atlas Roofing donates products — to organizations across the country, such as the Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity and Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida. And AtlasPRO+™ Diamond contractor Dan Worstell has personally volunteered his time for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Williamsburg.

Helping Veterans

In 2018, Atlas Roofing announced its partnership with the Veterans Community Project (VCP), a Kansas City-based nonprofit working to eliminate veteran homelessness through transitional housing solutions and social services.

Specifically, Atlas offered to provide materials for the VCP’s first Veterans Housing Village by way of its four business divisions — Roof & Wall Insulation, Shingles & Underlayments, Expanded Polystyrene and Web Technologies.

“We are always looking for ways to give back to the communities where we do business, and we are inspired by the mission of Veterans Community Project to serve those who have previously served our country,” Atlas Roofing President Ken Farrish said during the partnership announcement. “Our aim is to provide exceptional products that not only simplify the build, but more importantly provide long-term sustainability for the village and organization.”

Through the partnership, Atlas continues to be joined by key partners in the communities where VCP builds and supports, as well as by invaluable volunteers, all of whom donated time and services for the construction.

The Veterans Housing Village is a specialized community of tiny homes that give previously homeless veterans a private, secure and stable residence that allows them to reintegrate into civilian life at their own pace.

The village model that VCP integrates into communities throughout the country also provides veterans with additional services, such as counseling and mentoring, through an onsite community center.

“Our partnership with Atlas Roofing has been instrumental in the successful completion of our first veteran village development,” said Brandonn Mixon, co-founder and chief project officer at the VCP. “Thanks to the high-performance value that Atlas products offer, I am confident our residents will stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer while we keep our energy costs low.”

Raising Awareness for Breast Cancer

In 2019, Atlas released special-edition rolls of Summit® 60 Pink underlayment, which were adorned with a pink ribbon design. For every roll sold, Atlas donated $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure — ultimately raising over $160,000 toward finding a cure for breast cancer. (We even did a podcast episode about it!)

That same year, G. Klemm Roofing in Geneva, IL, gave a breast cancer survivor a new (free) roof, which included shingles and underlayments donated by Atlas.

Put a Little Love in Your Heart

As the song of the same name says, “Think of your fellow man, lend him a helping hand.” (If you need a reminder of the tune, watch the end of the classic 80’s movie “Scrooged,” starring Bill Murray.)

In fact, we’re making it easy to do so! To help with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner this year, Atlas is giving away 10 $250 gift cards to families in need. Do you know someone who could use some help during the holidays? Nominate them here!

And while we’re thrilled to be able to provide gift cards this year, we think it’s important to help others whenever we can, any time of the year and not just during the holidays, when people tend to be the most generous.

So, whether you have the means now or next month or sometime next year, we encourage you to join us in lending a helping hand to those who are less fortunate.

By volunteering your time, donating money or goods, or simply sharing some love and compassion, you can make a difference in someone else’s life!
